The Center is a free, official, and non-canonical DLC expansion map for ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended. Originally created by the modder Ben "EvilMrFrank" Burkart, this map features a variety of climate zones and geological regions that go beyond what is found on the standard map "The Island." The most notable features include a massive floating island in the west, surrounded by treacherous swamps, and an active volcanic island in the north, covered in basalt, lava, and dangerous predators. Numerous islands with dense jungles, tropical coastlines, mountains, and ancient ruins shape the diverse archipelago. Underground cave systems challenge survivors as they search for artifacts and hidden treasures. A special highlight is an underground ecosystem with its own "sun," located deep beneath the lush jungles. Additionally, there are two underwater domes that can be used as waterproof bases.
With the introduction of ARK: Survival Ascended, "The Center" underwent a comprehensive overhaul. In addition to improved graphics, new areas and creatures were added, including the Ceratosaurus, Xiphactinus, and Gigantoraptor. The boss arena was redesigned, while the existing bosses were retained. However, some players have noted that certain visual elements have been altered, which could affect the original charm of the map. Despite these changes, "The Center" remains a diverse and challenging environment for all survivors.
